Renowned for her sex appeal, Fiona Xie made her acting debut
when she was cast as a nurse in the local hit drama series,
Growing Up. Her convincing acting landed her one of her most
recognizable roles in the sitcom, My Genie. In 2001, Fiona won
"Best Newcomer Award" at Mediacorp's Star Awards after just over
a year in showbiz.
Of late, Fiona has become renowned for her talents as a
bilingual variety show hostess, in particular of the
long-running series, City Beat. Xie has since hosted other
variety shows, such as the photography-based "Say Cheez" for
Channel 8, and introducing celebrities' favourite hawker foods
in "Coffee Talk and Hawker Woks" for Channel 5. Recently Fiona
Xie and actor Ben Yeo also hosted the travel show "Weekend
Escapade".
In 2004, Fiona Xie made the news when she had to run with
Jeanette Aw, Xiao Qiao and Felicia Chin, in bikinis along
crowded Orchard Road, for the drama series "The Champion", . She
later admitted through an interview that she wore another bikini
underneath. Rumours were spread through the Taiwanese paparazzi
that she was romantically involved with Taiwanese "Champion"
co-star, Toro, which both parties have denied, saying that they
were friends. In late 2004, Fiona's blog was revealed by popular
Singaporean blogger Xiaxue, whose derisory comments led to
Xiaxue's fans swarming it and harassing her until Fiona closed
it down.
In 2005, Fiona Xie was voted FHM Singapore's Sexiest Woman of
the Year mainly due to her reputation of being well-endowed,
even though she has never been photographed by FHM. However she
objects being referred to as a sex-symbol. She has also said
that her on-screen bubbly & saccharine sweet persona is
different from her more reserved, slightly husky-voiced true
self.
